The ECB is one of the first professional sports organisations in the UK to enhance the development of its coaching programme by linking it directly to the achievement of post-graduate qualifications.
Working with the Nexus Higher Level Skills Service based in Gloucester the ECB has developed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Personal and Professional Development which is focussed on meeting the ongoing learning needs of its Elite Coaches.
The Diploma will consist of a two year programme of professional development which will be founded upon learning and assessment within the work-place. As one of the first courses of its kind it is anticipated that the achievement of this qualification will have a number of beneficial impacts upon both the individual learners and the sport as a whole. These include:
- The promotion of the professional status of coaching within cricket and within society in general
- The enhancement of the individual skills and knowledge of coaching staff
- Improving the quality of coaching activity
- Increasing the employability of coaching staff both within the sport and across the labour market in general
- A deepening of the knowledge base that underpin coaching activity within in the sport
- The raising of the profile of cricket within sport in general and its recognition as a leader within the field of staff development
