Dr Mary Mahoney   
Director

Dr Mary MahoneyMary’s role is to lead Nexus and achieve successful and sustainable models of responsive higher skills provision in the county. She has an extensive understanding of the needs of Gloucestershire having completed the Gloucestershire Higher Education Study in 2002 on behalf of the partners which provided a comprehensive assessment of demand and formed the evidence base for funding for Nexus. She has worked across the institutions since 2006 as their HE Partnership Manager.

Prior to relocating to England from Australia, Mary worked at Deakin University in Melbourne and continues to hold an honorary appointment. Her specialist expertise relates to the translation and transformation of education and knowledge for employers and employees. She has a Masters degree in Education, a Masters degree in Science (Ecology and Society) and a PhD in Public Health Policy.

Nicki Stewart  
Employer Engagement Manager

Nicki’s role is to support the growth and development of HE in
collaboration with employers in Gloucestershire.  She also works
with partnership organisations, sector skills councils and key stakeholders.
 
Nicki has extensive experience in further and higher education, government relations, marketing and strategic development together with a proven track  record in developing effective working relationships both within public and private sector organisations.  Nicki’s previous role was Project Manager within People 1st, the sector skills council for Hospitality, Leisure, Tourism and Travel.

Prior to returning home to Gloucestershire from New Zealand, Nicki held CEO roles within education and corporate affairs, in addition to a number of Board memberships including Positively Wellington Tourism and the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Julia Ingram 
Partnerships Officer

Julia IngramJulia’s role is to foster strong relationships between Nexus and it's collaborative partners, to know and understand  the local higher education currently on offer and to research latent demand for higher level skills in Gloucestershire.

Julia’s work experience has been wide-ranging, taking in librarianship, information research, youth work, teaching and work-based learning.  Prior to Nexus, Julia was the Vocational Progression Coordinator for the Aimhigher West Area Partnership - so has extensive knowledge of progression routes into higher education and of work-based learning.

Karlee Jarvis
Employer Liaison and Academic Tutor

Karlee’s role is to manage the quality of the academic provision of
Nexus programmes. She liaises with employers, learners and link tutors in Gloucestershire to ensure programmes run smoothly. With extensive experience of developing, validating and delivering HE programmes she combines her experience of quality management and teaching to bring her academic and work-based skills to the Nexus team. Her passion for personalisation of learning and diversity of assessment for work-based learners has led to her becoming a Fellow with the Higher Education Academy.

 

Prior to joining Nexus, Karlee worked as an analyst/programmer and a training officer in the RAF (VRT), then re-trained an HE Computing Lecturer.  This led to quality management roles and accredited programme writing in the education sector.  She has a BSc in Environmental Science, Post Graduate Certificate in Computing and Level 7 Certificate in Quality Management.  She is currently studying for an MSc in Computing and a Level 7 in Strategic Management and is also an Associate Lecturer for the Open University.

Wendy Monteith 
Manager of New Product Creation (part time)
 
Wendy’s role is to interpret employers’ HE needs and work in partnership to develop suitable accredited or validated programmes. Wendy is responsible for the design, development and production of learning products and services that are accredited or validated within existing HE structures and quality assurance frameworks. She has an extensive knowledge of flexible, demand-led and work-based learning programmes. Before joining Nexus, Wendy worked as the University of Gloucestershire Progression Coordinator for the Western Vocational Lifelong Learning Network. Wendy has worked with a wide range of organisations and education providers to enhance the progression of non-traditional learners into and through higher education. Prior to this she worked in the Department for Work Based and Integrative Studies at the University of Chester.

Emma Pask  
Manager of New Product Creation (part time)
 
Emma’s role is to articulate employers’ learning and development
 needs into suitably accredited emma.jpg - 147.74 Kbprogrammes for staff.

Her background as a training and development specialist spans a range of private/public sector and not-for-profit organisations. Past roles include creating bespoke learning programmes, training delivery, training management, and managing enterprise activity within Higher Education. Current interests thread together coaching, emotional intelligence, peer feedback and organisational competency structures.

She has a deep appreciation for demonstrable learning outcomes springing from a strong belief that improved skills, knowledge and behaviours benefit both ‘personal’ and ‘professional’ life.

 
  
Sarah Gilbert
Project Manager (Operations)

Sarah GilbertSarah’s role is to work across the institutions and partnerships with employers to create organisational capability solutions which allow for seamless integration of employees into HE programmes. Sarah is responsible for the day to day management of the facilities and a number of the projects, ensuring that tracking systems for learners are in place. Prior to joining Nexus in October 2009 Sarah worked as the PA to the Directors of eminate Ltd at the the University of Nottingham. Sarah brings a wealth of operational and research skills to the project. She has a First Class Honours Degree in Sociology and Psychology and an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Loughborough University. Sarah has a strong research background with experience in social research. Sarah is a qualified PRINCE2 practitioner. Currently on maternity leave.

Trish Upton 
Lead - Health Care Practice 

Trish UptonTrish is currently working for Nexus part time offering specialist curriculum input to support several of the developmental pilot projects. Her specific expertise is in the training and development needs of the health care sector. Trish has a long involvement in this area in Gloucestershire and she is working on a range of flexible new products that reflect the current needs of major employers in the county.

Anona McNeile
Administrative Assistant

Anona McNeileAnona’s role is to provide a wide range of administrative support for all the Nexus team members and to provide a professional, friendly, efficient and customer-focused front-line reception service to visitors of the organisation. Prior to joining Nexus Anona’s career was in Distribution Sales in the Electronic Component market.  In this role she had to achieve sales targets whilst delivering and excelling customer service needs.
